Understanding Focus by Digital Photo Secrets

Understanding Focus by Digital Photo Secrets: "What is focus? In photography, it’s practically married to sharpness. An image that is completely sharp is said to be in-focus. An image that’s completely blurry is said to be unfocused. The same metaphor applies to your mind. When you concentrate, your mind is sharp. You are focused. When you’re confused, you lack focus. As you are about to learn, you can use focus to direct your viewer’s attention to the most important parts of a scene. Here’s how."

Readers: Lens Filters: To Use or Not To Use? Your 2 cents, if you please!: "For those of you who are newer to the wild, wild world of photography, there are many different kinds of lens filters, and thus they are used for varied reasons. The two most commonly used filters would be 1) Polarizing filters which are used to reduce glare and improve overall image saturation and 2) UV filters which essentially exist to provide extra protection (from scratches, cracks etc) to the front of your lens. These filters run anywhere from a few dollars (for a piece of shizizzle) all the way up to the $900 range (I’ve heard rumors that this variety is plated in gold. . . though I’ve never seen one with my own eyes, so I can’t definitively say)."

Night Time-lapse Photography with Stars and Auroras – PictureCorrect: "There have been quite a few timelapse videos making an appearance lately and Randy Halverson’s, Temporal Distortion, might just be one of my favorites. His timelapse takes us into remote areas in the United States and shows us what the night sky looks like sans light pollution. It’s magical and if you don’t believe me, have a look for yourself in the following video."

How to Sharpen Photos – PictureCorrect

How to Sharpen Photos – PictureCorrect: "One thing to note about digital photos before we on… the picture format which you use. If you’ve set you digital camera to capture in JPEG format, it is likely you’ve encounter some loss of quality in the picture due to image compression. In this case, it does make sense to apply sharpening on the photo. If, however, you’ve selected to shoot in RAW mode, then you’ll unlikely face any image degradation – sharpening a RAW image isn’t necessary as often."

Smugmug’s Camera Awesome App For iPhones [REVIEW]

Smugmug’s Camera Awesome App For iPhones [REVIEW]: "This is one review I am excited to write. I have been a fan of Smugmug for years and years, paying for their Pro account annually and enjoying the ease of use on the site. I am also a recent iPhone convert and have enjoyed playing with various apps as I become accustomed to the device. One area of interest has been photography apps and I was quick to download the Photographer’s Ephemeris and a decent Depth Of Field (hyperfocal) Calculator. I then played around with various camera apps and found some useful and some lacking."

How Photoshop Makes us all Paranoid: "What I learned very quick in my starting activity as a freelance-photographer is that, all work be damned, you have exceedingly little control over your assignment-flow. Knowing how to Create a Photo and Not just Take One

Knowing how to Create a Photo and Not just Take One: "You either are a portrait photographer or landscape photographer and you come across the perfect moment, everything falls into place, every aspect and variable in the equation right at this moment equals awesomeness! Now what? Fire at will captain! Take no prisoners! I once fell into this temptation in a situation where I thought it was too good to be true, and then loaded all the files later to find a heap of average shots. I fell into temptation of letting my subject/scenery take over and I just took the photo, I didn’t create it, I stopped thinking, never stop thinking."

The Impact of Less

The Impact of Less: "Photography is about choices and decisions. Make the right ones up to the moment the shutter button is pressed and a successful composition will result. Edit and Create on the Go with Adobe Photoshop Touch for iPad: "On Monday, Adobe launched its Photoshop Touch application for the iPad. This long sought after app runs on the iPad 2, and not on the iPad 1, and it requires that you have iOS 5 installed. Present Moment Photography

Present Moment Photography: "I have a horrible habit of wasting so much of my present moment time constantly thinking about everything and everyone! If you are like me, it can be so difficult to focus on what I’m doing right now at this exact moment (just caught myself thinking about something I need to do as I write this article). I’m constantly distracted by thoughts and most of the time these distractions running through my head are about what has already happened or what may happen in the future."
