Smartphone Camera Shoot-Out: iPhone 4S vs. Droid Bionic vs. Galaxy S II vs. HTC Amaze | PCMag.com: "Over the past few years, smartphone cameras have evolved significantly. From primitive, low-quality image devices that grabbed photos you wouldn't dream of printing, we've gotten to the point where some have put forth the notion that the iPhone 4S may contain the best camera you've ever owned. For most people, that's debatable, but you can't deny the fact that the camera on your phone is almost always in your pocket, so getting the best one isn't a bad idea."

Levels: Getting the Professional ‘Pop’
Levels: Getting the Professional ‘Pop’: "One of the questions I see most frequently on DPS is “How can I give my images that professional ‘pop?’” The truth is, pros have a whole bag of tricks for setting themselves apart from the pack and, like your auto mechanic, they use different techniques for different situations. However, there are some things that are common to most images, like getting the exposure and focus right, cropping and sharpening. I hear about these things all the time in this forum, but rarely hear about one of my favorite tools; “Levels” and that’s unfortunate, because I would estimate that fully 90% of the images I see posted here would benefit from a Levels adjustment."

It went against my instincts as a photographer to see a shot and not take it. How did I do it? I created some rules for myself to tame the [photography] beast within, so I could be respectful to the hired photographer."

Olympus Sz-10 Review: Overview
Olympus Sz-10 Review: Overview: "Olympus continues to produce appealing super-zoom digital cameras, and the SZ-10 is no exception. The first "SZ" labeled camera we've ever seen from them, the SZ-10 is what we consider a compact super-zoom, with its petite frame, yet powerful 18x optical zoom lens. This is a nice wide lens too, which covers a 35mm equivalent range of 28-504mm and a relatively fast aperture of f/3.1 at wide angle. "

50 inspiring examples of emotional portrait photography | Richworks: "Although photographic lighting and the way we capture the image with a camera may have changed over the years; all great portraits, whether they are taken on film or digitally, depend on the photographer’s ability to use light and pose his or her subject. Surprisingly, there seems to be something of an enigmatic aura that surrounds portrait photography; even some professional photographers admit that they won’t fully understand about photographic lightning."

Eye Contact Smiles and More [What I Learned from Shooting with Film: Part 5]
Eye Contact Smiles and More [What I Learned from Shooting with Film: Part 5]: "One last thought to wrap up this little series of blog posts. With film, the shoots always had a limit. I needed to get my shots in a certain number of frames so I had to be pretty organized. I went in with a game plan. I would always try to get the sitting still and smiling at the camera shots first and out of the way for no other reason than I wanted to have as much film left over as possible to capture the real photos. Everyone asks for those eye contact / natural smile shots, so I do my best to get a great one, but for me, that is not what kid photography is about."

There were no camera phones to capture the moments I wanted to capture."
